America's Birthday
First a little history lesson. As of 2025, the United States is 249 years old! This age is measured from the day the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4,1776. The Declaration of Independence stated the American colonies independence from Britain. Every year since then we have celebrated the 4th of July as the nation’s birthday.
Celebrating the 4th in the Golden Isles
Most places in America celebrate with fireworks, barbeques, and patriotic songs. St Simons Island is not different, except that many locals and visitors alike celebrate with a day at the beach or in a boat on the water.
If running is your thing, the Sunshine Festival takes place on July 4th at the St Simons Pier Village. It is a 5k and 1 mile run. Race packets can be picked up on July 3rd. For more information and registration, visit here.
Fireworks!
After dark there are many places in the Golden Isles to view fireworks. On St Simons Island, fireworks can be enjoyed at Neptune Park near the Pier Village area. On Jekyll Island the best place to view the fireworks is Great Dunes Park, but the Jekyll Island fireworks can be seen all up and down the island coastline. Sea Island will have a fireworks show for hotel guests and Sea Island members. Brunswick will have fireworks at the Mary Ross Waterfront Park. All fireworks shows will happen after dusk.
Happy Fourth of July!!
